Name: Arvid
Nickname(s): None
Played by: Flo
Age: 37
Date of Birth: April 1st
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Breed: Bardic Terrka
Abilities: Heartsong- the ability to create a peaceful environment when performing
Loyalty: To whoever protects him from his fears
Status/Occupation: Traveling Musician
Appearance: Arvid stands at 5'6, an average height for Bardic Terrka's, but he makes himself seem so much smaller by wearing clothing that is too big for his lean body. He is moderately toned, but lack of sleep out of fear makes him appear malnourished. His brown hair is long and is kept in a braid that reaches down to his waist and his skin is an olive color which sadly makes him appear more sickly than anything else. His blue eyes are accented by worry lines and always have bags underneath them. Sometimes, with just the right lighting, and the perfect audience, he will appear happy and healthy, but that is a rare case.
Arvid's True Form is quite a spectacle to behold. He is actually quite proud of this and it can really only be described as some sort of cat, fox, frog, peacock thing. His head is much like a peacocks with several bright purple feathers off the top and bright rings around his eyes which are small and beady. He has a plume of feathers that stretch from right above his chest and up his neck. His body is a strange fur that is somehow green and yellow in color, fading in and out of both. His fur is a bit thicker than it appears and also hides a pouch, much like a kangaroo, that sits along his chest. This is convenient since he can place any small instruments or clothing he needs to in there when changed... with the exception of his shoes. He has front paws like a large cat with the paws themselves being a red color. His hind legs are green, that are spotted purple and white and end in bright orange webbed feet. This design is somewhat cumbersome when it comes to running because his backside will waddle in this very awkward way, sometimes hopping like a frog so he may catch up to the front half of his body. He has three fox-like tails that start off red then contrast in white that goes off to a darker blue at the tips.
Personality: Arvid is nothing but a bundle of worries. He has a cornucopia of phobias including ones for darkness, heights, pain, chickens, thunder and lightening, mirrors, trees, insects, horses, dolls, children, ghosts and birds. What is most interesting about him is that he often is unafraid of things that he should, be afraid of, like daemons. He does love performing and often plays music on his free time and for an audience, but he will run away at the very sight of a child so it isn't the greatest line of work for him.
History: Arvid wasn't always afraid of everything. He had a natural fear of the dark, lightening/thunder, and of ghosts as a child and a slightly less reasonable fear of dolls. His siblings would tease him and frighten him in various ways because of this, and over time they caused him to develop more of a fear of different things. After that things just went downhill for poor Arvid. Everyone he met found his fearful reactions and his true form to be terribly amusing and tortured the poor boy until he began jumping at most everything. Cruel pranks and bad choices had him gaining more and more fear left and right until he was even afraid of children.
His parents loved their son, and they felt very sorry for him, but they couldn't find any way to protect him from all of his fears. So as soon as Arvid was old enough, he left home, hoping to escape his cruel peers and get over some of his fears. That hasn't been going well for him so far, but he has not given up yet.
Roleplay Sample:
A loud squawk startled the woman sitting next to the door. She had fallen asleep while waiting for Arvid to return. Oddly the sound was not an unpleasant one. It was just unnatural to hear such a beautiful tone come from such a strange creature. As it was, the form that had called out beautifully continued its strange waddle up the steps and through the front door, when it changed back into the lanky and unwashed form of a man.
Arvid was just past the age of 23 and had been preparing for his journey all through the week. His mother followed him into the room, and waited for him to get dressed once again. As a bardic terrka herself, the nudity did not bother her. It was a simple fact of their lives and there was nothing that could be done about that.
"Have you decided which road you would take?" she asked her son, worry heavy in her voice.
"I think so, but I might change my mind once I get farther down the pass." Arvid sounded tired, but determined. His mother knew better than to say anything about it. He was doing his very best to be brave for her, when she knew it was taking all of his will to not cry out about how many insects, bugs and birds he had to escape in just the few hours he had been away.
"I'll see you off in the morning. Are you sure you don't want to have anyone come with you?" She knew he wouldn't but the thought of him being alone out there scared her.
"No, but I'll be happy to have you around to say goodbye. I'm going to go finish packing now." With that Arvid left the room, walking to his own so he might fill a bag with anything he felt he would need for the trip ahead.
