Hadjara chewed the inside of her cheek and the rapid twitching of the end of her tail betrayed her unease. She couldn’t stand talking about Malak with others. Maybe she wouldn’t become aggressive the way Malak did whenever someone even hinted that it might be better if they were separated but it was still a topic she actively shut down when she could. She felt the same way as he did, for better or worse, but she held no illusions about the Adumbrate. He was cruel and vain and given the chance would have happily murdered Rosalind as violently as possible. She couldn’t fault the shifter for hating him, but she still wanted to steer the conversation away from him before it went into territory she wasn’t comfortable with. ”Ya won’t be,” Hadjara said softly as she glanced up again and studied Rosalind’s face.
Suhail batted at one of her locks of hair and gurgled, not understanding why his aunt had suddenly changed so drastically and wasn’t paying attention to him anymore. He squirmed in her arms, and one of his wings batted at her chest but he settled down when Hadjara furrowed her brow and asked, ”Bless Sue? How d’ya mean?” She didn’t know what Rosalind meant but the horse shifter had a clear affection for children in general, since she had put herself between them and Malak despite his disinterest in them so it was safe to say she doubted Rosalind would harm a hair on any of their heads. Hadjara glanced down at Suhail, whose bright green eyes were somewhere halfway between human and crocodilian, clearly in an effort to focus. It would probably take a while before he was used to all the heightened senses being a Daemon brought on, although perhaps it would be easier for him to adjust to the changes since he was still a child.
”I wouldn’t be opposed ta it,” Hadjara decided, and she knelt so she could set Suhail on his feet. He was wide awake and so was she, they both needed less sleep that their relatives and neither of them had been particularly traumatized by the appearance of Malak. Hadjara’s tail bumped between Suhail’s shoulders, sending him waddling over to where Rosalind was, since Hadjara herself didn’t want to approach her. Rosalind might seem like she was okay being near the daemon but if someone had tried to hurt Hadjara she wouldn’t let them anywhere near her. She ought to do the same for Rosalind.
When it looked like Rosalind was about to laugh, Hadjara offered a sheepish sort of smile and shifted her weight on her feet. At least she seemed to know what Hadjara was getting at, Hadjara wasn’t sure how else to say it. Although she wasn’t sure what exactly Rosalind was going to imagine, Hadjara figured that it probably wouldn’t be too far off. She might have been strange for a human but now as a Daemon Hadjara fell in line pretty easily with what was expected of her race. ”I ain’t sure,” Hadjara said with a shrug, ”It’s only been like this for a week; I ain’t had a chance to come up with any sort of plan.” Well, none aside from actively avoiding everything she used to do.
