Reptilian Deer
- The Reptilian Deer is closely related to the Wolf Deer and both are distantly related to the gentler, herbivorous Aksel
- Despite their name these creatures are actually mammals, not reptiles - their 'scales' are modified fur (and still feel densely furry to the touch) and they retain the fur mane along their back. They are always white, pale grey or silver in colour with large yellow eyes
- Reptilian deer are aggressive creatures which are likely to attack on sight. They make a hissing sound when aggravated
- Their horns and hides are worth up to a silver each. The horns are extremely hard and can be fashioned into durable knives, and the pelt can be fashioned into a light, flexible, but strong armour that is better than boiled leather
- These creatures breed once a year like regular deer, producing one offspring or occasionally twins. Young stay with their mothers until they next fawn comes along; in twins, it is not uncommon for the larger offspring to eventually kill and eat the smaller one
- Also like regular deer males fight for a harem of females, with larger and stronger males holding a larger harem. Female reptilian deer are dangerous in their own right though and will kill and eat a male if they can overpower him
- They cannot be farmed or tamed successfully, though the meat is edible and they are hunted in their native territory of the Tangle and the edges of the Savannah
- The adults have a mild poison in their front teeth that will make their prey groggy and clumsy for a short period of time; this aids their hunting and makes them particularly dangerous to the sentient races, who are just as likely to be devoured as anything else they catch
