It had been only a day since Iriana had awoken in the dusty and dilapidated house. The house itself wasn't much but it served its purpose as a safe place to sleep so she neither complained nor considered searching for a new one. The femme currently had a much larger goal in mind and that was to explore, living on the outskirts of a human city, that must mean she was human, right? She thought so though any time she said the word 'human' Chax cringed a bit. No matter. She'd have to find out on her own, she knew she wasn't Fae, nor halfling, Dameon was highly unlikely and she hoped to whatever god there was she wasn't a Shifter. Even now as she walked the streets with Chax beside her she specifically avoided eye contact with the Shifter slaves as they carried crates, emptied tubs, swept, and did other meaningless chores for their humans. No, she wasn't a Shifter.
There was so much to this city, the day she awoke she attempted to prowl the outer edge but it went on and on so she decided against it, after all, the best way to kill a beast is to go straight to the heart, right? Today that was what she was doing. She trusted Chax to return her home if she lost her way but she had picked a path towards the inner city and walked it. The essa had already been walking for hours when she noticed the buildings began to get denser and denser, more and more people packing on to the roads. Oddly enough, Iriana rarely bumped shoulders with any of these humans, they seemed pretty keen on avoiding her at all costs. If she listened, she could hear what they were saying.
"Mommy, what's that lady wearing?" Iri heard a child question as its mother selected produce. "Don't look at the whore, Isael, hold these."
Iriana raised her well pointed nose a bit higher into the air, squaring her shoulders a bit, what these people said about how she chose to dress would not affect her in the slightest, did they not realize her choice was the better option? Oh well. Their loss. She maneuvered easily among the people, Chax never drifting far from her and she never worrying until she felt a hand grasp her shoulder. This was the first time she had been in direct contact with another person since she awoke and frankly she wasn't sure how to handle it. The hand was warm on her bare olive colored shoulder and slightly grimy but she turned politely to see whom the hand belonged to. It wasn't a pretty owner. The man was barely taller than her and his breath, much like the rest of him, reeked of alcohol.
"W'll hey thurr pretty lady, whattta girl like you doin on this end of town?" The man slurred. His skin was dark but Iri deduced that it was more likely from dirt and lack of clealiness than anything else. Iriana swallowed the vomit that threatened to rise and forced a very charming smile, still very aware of the clammy hand touching her. "I'm afraid, sir, that I do not know what you mean." She said politely, her Latino accent making the words themselves sound exotic. The man laughed loudly and Iriana began to wonder why nobody around them was paying any attention to them. "C'mon, Whore, what's yer price, huh?" The man slurred even more, his bloodshot eyes wandering to places that made Iri uncomfortable. She brushed his hand off with her own and stepped back. "I resent your name calling, I am not a WHORE and I do not have a PRICE. I will thank you to apologize to me and return to your drunken antics, Sir." She spat the last word like venom and as she did the man's face hardened. The man cracked his knuckles and stumbled towards her, his posture much straighter now and his jaw clenched as he hissed. "N'you listen here you bitch. I will not be spoken to like that by the likes of you." He took her by the arm so roughly that she yelped but still nobody around her stopped or even looked her way, Chax had even vanished from sight. "I think aft yer actions you owe me a d'scount, eh?" He yanked her towards him, his other hand reaching directly for her crotch. "How DARE YOU! Unhand me this INSTANT!" Iri shouted, jerking her arm free and fleeing off into the crowds of people. "COME BACK HERE, WHORE!" Shouted the man, giving chase as Iri dodged in and out of people and around buildings, fear beginning to wrap its cold finger around her chest and making it difficult to think clearly or see where she was heading.
