Returning to the City had not been one of Hawk's ideas. It was all his significant other's, Bellina. The fae woman had insisted that they return so she could finish the work she had begun when she came across him. Hawk was good at managing to keep the impulse to run back to his previous masters' household while he was away from the place, but while he was inside of it, the urge to go back and beg forgiveness was almost unbearable. Gods, he was frightened. What if they saw him? Would they even recognize him? He had changed...a lot when he was turned into a fae, which was only a few months ago. He was still getting used to the change from arms, to wings, and from normal legs to backwards-bending, extended bird feet with talons on the end. It was still all really odd to him.
Bellina had left him and assured him that he would be jut find if he stayed in the more common areas with larger crowds. From the moment she left, he could feel the intense fear of abandonment put pressure on his chest. Ever since she had walked away, his heart rate had increased and his breath had shallowed. He grew paranoid at every little thing he saw, and was very reluctant to stray too far from where she lef t him. Not to mention, Hawk had no idea how to use the fae's ability to change their appearance while in public. Luckily, he was easily passed off as a shifter of some sort.
Most of his body, including his upper thighs , wasit, and wings, were covered with feathers, so he was rather warm during that dry winter afternoon. His chest had to be covered by warmer material, and all he had was multiple layers of shredded linen wrapped all the way up to the point under his wings, and then tied off. Normally, he would have his beak-like helmet that he was so found of, but it brought too much attention to a 'shifter' in the city, so he had to leave it behind at the Mound. So instead, he had pulled his long, auburn hair into a ponytail on the side of his head.
The sun was still high in the sky, but it was shrouded by thick overcast clouds. It was a rather gloomy day, and that did not help with his feeling of abandonment. Even his brilliant, beautiful auburn hair, which would reflect a reddish hue when hit with direct sunlight, was dull and more brown than red. Where was Bellina? What if she was captured?! Killed?!? What would he do without her?!?! He was so infatuated with her, that he wasn't sure he wanted to know what it would be like without her in his life.
Hawk had crouched down next two a pile of barrels near the entrance to a popular shifter tavern called the Rumpled Goat's Leg. An odd name, but it seemed barren enough. He had gone against what Bellina had told him, and preferred to be away from the larger crowds. Occasionally he would hear laughter or banter coming from the old, worn-down tavern, and every now and then a shifter would come by, give him an raised eyebrow in question as he was crouched towards the floor with his arms wrapped around his waist, and then move their way into the bar. It was the middle of the day, and a few people were on the cobblestone street. Most seemed to either be going to the bar, or the small little bakery shop across from it. There was also a tiny smithy a few buildings over from the bakery, but those were the only shops. The rest of the buildings were residency, old and run down. Hawk realized that he was more in the slums than he was in the commoner area.
It'd been a few hours since Bellina had left, and he was sure he would not see her till later towards the night. Since Hawk had little control over his wings or legs, he was sort of at a loss on what to do. Even with the bat-like appendages at the apex of his wings, he had no idea how to use them. Bellina was still helping him learn.
