After very, very long journey with Namenai, the two finally arrived in The City. Shiro, in his (very clever) disguise, has been able to stay in the City for quite a while. However, Nobody seemed to know what the artifact was, so his search for answers seemed to be all for naught once again.
As Shiro walked through a rather busy street, a man, running at full speed, ran right into Shiro, knocking him over. The man glared down at Shiro, clearly angry. Shiro had barely been able to get up before he was grabbed by his muffler and pulled up by the man.
“Dammit, look what you did!” The man (okay, it’s Van) shouted. “You made me lose my target, ya little brat!”
“I-I’m sorry,” Shiro muttered, although he couldn’t quite put together what Van was saying. Target? Was he hunting something? “I’m not really sure what you mean by that, but…could you please put me down?”
“Huh?!” Van shouted, throwing Shiro down. “What do you mean you don’t know? I’m an assassin! That was my target! You made me lose him!”
Of course, that was something that Shiro didn’t approve of. An assassin, huh? So this guy just went and killed people when he was told to? Just for some money? So, he didn’t value life at all. Shiro stood up and glared at Van. Now, he wasn’t going to let this guy get to his “target”.
“I don’t think you should be killing people just for some money,” Shiro said as calmly as he could. Oh, but how he wanted to yell at this guy.
Now, Van looked even angrier. “Yeah?” He asked. “And where do you get off tellin’ me what to do, huh? I’ll live my life however I want! Now, scurry on home, kid, before I lose my temper.”
It seemed that Van’s attitude rubbed off on Shiro, because now Shiro looked just as angry. “For the record,” Shiro started, walking in front of the man. “I’m an adult. Secondly, I think you should value a person’s life more. How would you like it if you were just happily living out your life when someone comes in and kills you for no reason other than to earn some money?”
Van laughed, then pulled out his knife and pointed it at Shiro’s neck. “Good question, kid,” Van replied in an irritated tone despite his lighter facial expression. “The thing is, I won’t die. There isn’t a thing in this world that can kill me. Now, I’ll ask you one more time to get out of my way.”
“No,” Shiro said, and then smiled. He decided to just be blunt about it.
Van chuckled slightly then pulled back his knife a bit. “Well, you’re just askin’ for it, aren’t ya?” With that, Van pushed his knife back out, intending to stab Shiro. However, Shiro stepped to the side and…
And then they fought for a while and I can’t think of anything else, so THE END
Oh, here’s an alternative ending:
Van laughed, then pulled out his knife and pointed it at Shiro’s neck. “Good question, kid,” Van replied in an irritated tone despite his lighter facial expression. “The thing is, I won’t die. There isn’t a thing in this world that can kill me. Now, I’ll ask you one more time to get out of my way.”
Namenai, who had just been standing on the side until this point, sprinted over to Van and knocked him out before he even noticed her. No one was going to pull a knife on her pet and get away with it.
And then Namenai and Shiro just walked away like they didn’t do it.
