The Outcast.
Four species who once inhabited Litharia, but for one reason or another left ages ago.
They exist only in the records of the Fae, for they had long gone by the time the other species arrived. Histories spoke of the four, but solid proof of the existance of any of the species was hard to come by. Most believed they were imaginary creatures, created by the Fae as stories for their children.
The Gods do not speak of them. It is entirely possible that the Gods were not involved in their creation. There are claims that they were created through wild magic by pure accident. It had been theorized that it was the gods who sent them away from Litharia in the first place.
This was basically the truth.
A note to those playing Outcasts: All four groups are very small in number as of right now. They have had no opportunity to get organized in Litharia, and will cling to a more established species for the sake of survival.
The Angels:
A powerful winged people, known for their control of the elements. They are meticulous in habit, and consider Justice and Control to be more important than free will. They once considered the wild Fae to be below them. When they were outcast, they swore to purge their new homes of wildness, which they considered evil. They did so.
Those who have returned to Litharia have found that the Fae are easier to deal with. Their experiences abroad have given them some amount of tolerance, though not much.
The Angels have, however, found a species they do not like. The Daemons represent almost everything the Angels have ever found to be evil, right down to the bone. Although the Fae and Shifters are both wild, the Angels find them tolerable. They don't intend to purge the land of Fae and Shifters quite yet, at least.
All Angels have wings like Celestial Shifters. They have begun recruiting the more civilized Celestials to their cause, with a promise to involve them in the new world order.
They can be found living with the Shifters, though they are currently still banned from the Island as outsiders. (Many find this ironic, as the Angels consider themselves to be the superior species yet choose to associate with 'mongrels'.)
Because they are still small in numbers, the Angels have not yet announced their intent to go to war with the Daemons.
Angels tend towards 'Lawful' morality.
The leaders of the Angels are called the Archangels. There used to be only one, but the groups split when half of them 'Fell'. There is now a leader for the Light Angels and the Fallen Angels.
Dwarves:
Dwarves, a species which has always quarreled casually with it's more impractical relatives- the Fae, have recently settled into the Human society of Litharia. They are considered a 'mistake' branch of the Fae themselves, the ungraceful and grounded offshoots who left Litharia for their own reasons to live elsewhere. They have recently returned, seeing the Humans as an industrious species worth allying with.
Like the Humans, the Dwarves cannot use magic. They can, however, see most forms of magic without any effort at all. This is a simple extension of their sense of sight, and requires the Dwarf to have at least one functional eye to do. They have learned how to manipulate magic like any other material, literally shaping it and using it in their crafting. Dwarven-made artifacts rival those made by the Fae in craftsmanship, and are preferred by some for the general reliability, safety, and ease of use, although most do not contain magic as strong as Fae artifacts.
A Dwarf can make an artifact of any type with the proper source of magic (generally a donation from a creature who uses magic, such as a Fae), but can only use artifacts of his or her own affinity. A Dwarf will craft his or her own artifact, something that is very important to them, before beginning work on other artifacts.
Many Dwarves apprentice at young ages in order to learn their arts.
All Dwarves, male or female, can (indeed) grow beards. Dwarf women are more likely to shave, but many younger Dwarf men will shave as well. It is more common for a Dwarf of the higher class to keep his or her beard, as it is less likely that they will be doing work that would present hazards to said facial hair.
Many Dwarves will have a secondary affinity for either Fire or Earth.
At the moment the Dwarves are keeping quiet about their associations with the Fae. Although they do not pretend to be Human, they aren't too noisy about their Dwarven heritage either.
Halflings:
The Halflings are a good-natured, short species who prefer living in the slower-paced forest to the City. They have begun associating with the Fae, due to their combined interest in the wilderness and general dislike for Humans. Their reasons differ from the Fae in that they simply don't like the fast lifestyles of Humans, and they are not interested in getting involved in something as violent as a war.
As a whole, Halflings enjoy eating, parties, and combinations of the two.
They live in burrows, 'Halfling-Holes', you could call them, that are deceptively crude on the outside, and well-furnished on the inside. They are hospitable to guests of any species, but tend to pretend that there is no war going on. If the war is brought up, they might change the subject or throw said guest out of the house. Most Halflings are homebodies, but those who choose to go out on adventure adapt just as quickly as any other species to a life on the road.
All Halflings have a close bond to a certain type of animal. They will be able to speak to these animals, and eventually develop other abilities related to their animal. They will invariably keep pets, and take very good care of them.
They are also capable of illusion magic connected to Dark or Light magic. This helps them escape from uncomfortable situations, gives them somewhat superior stealth abilities, and allows them to do all sorts of interesting party tricks. (including disappearing in the middle of one's own birthday party, perhaps)
Shadows:
Shadows have always survived on the fringes of society, slowly eating away on the emotions of the poorer members. (and who else has reason to feel so much pain and joy, but those without any sway in politics or money?) They were banished from Litharia immediately after the gods discovered their existence, and are at risk of banishment once more.
Because of their origins as essences of wild magic, the Shadows are always connected to the magic around them.
They never fully separated from the essence of magic, and are therefore not entirely connected to the physical world. No Shadow will ever be 'complete' in the physical world, though they can slip into the 'Shadow World' in their sleep, or when knocked out. (This is also important to the Shadow equivalent of a religion, as they remain alive in the Shadow World after death.)
90% of what goes on in the Shadow World is forgotten when the Shadow wakes up. They do not have any more control over when they wake up than any other creature in Litharia, and must stick to the average 8 hours a night.
Shadows are 'not quite' creatures, and non-Shadows can sense this.
Animals tend not to like Shadows, though it isn't impossible for Shadows to get pets.
Shadows are always missing something. They may be blind, deaf, mute, or unable to hold a solid form. They might also be entirely albino, unable to taste things, missing limbs, or emotionless.
The possibilities run the gamut, but it is guaranteed that a Shadow will be missing SOMETHING important.
Shadows who are missing something physical will have an innate talent for Philosophic type magic, and Shadows who are missing something internal(IE-mentally) will have innate Crafting magic.
Shadows can feed off of the emotions of others. The one who's emotional energy is being drained will feel the emotion less strongly, or completely loose the feeling, for a few hours.
They are currently thriving among the chaos of the Daemon society, and have infiltrated as far as the Daemon tunnels. Some Daemons know about this and either don't care or have taken them up as slaves, while others are oblivious. The Daemon Lord does not seem to have discovered them yet, although his reaction if he ever finds them very well could determine what becomes of the species.
Average Ages:
Angels: 700 years.
Dwarves: 500 years.
Halflings: 300 years.
Shadows: 600 years.
Governments:
Angels:
The two branches of the Angels are closer than one would assume, and work together seperately.
The Archangel of the light Angels is chosen by the previous Archangel when said Archangel retires.
The Archangel of the fallen Angels is chosen by vote among the fallen Angels.
The Archangels decide things between the two of them, in a way that could be compared to the Alphas of the Shifters. (though Archangels may be of either gender)
One will often present an idea with the expectation that the other will tear it to peices until the idea is improved or forgotten.
Dwarves:
A master craftsman(of either gender) is chosen for each of the four groups of Dwarves. This leader is, as the name states, the best at his or her own craft.
Beyond settling disputes and maintaining craft guilds, the master craftsmen does not do much.
The Dwarves are, at the moment, following the Human King. They have been asked by the master craftsmen not to go to war, but to obey any practical laws beyond that.
Halflings:
A head is chosen to lead each clan. Each clan holds several houses, and the heads of each house come together to choose a head for the Clan.
The four clanleaders have been considering picking one among themselves to send to the Fae council as a representative.
(Note: House names relate back to the clan name. Examples:
HillTalon, EmptyFin, GreenScale, RiverFur)
Shadows:
As an unorganized fringe society, the Shadows do not observe a government. The concept of 'leaders' and 'followers' is alien to them. All shadows consider themselves equal to one another, and there are not dominant or submissive roles in their society.
They somewhat understand the dynamic between a direct relationship such as master/slave, but as they only experience this type of relationship when interacting with other species, like Daemons, it is still a rather foreign idea to them.
They will not join armies without very specific, direct motivations to do so. A mercenary earning money would be an example of this.

These are generally weaker than standard abilities, and are based on each individual's secondary magic (IE a Dark Angel would have 'Dark' abilities). I haven't yet collected the secondary abilities currently created, but there is a framework showing the post requirements for new secondary abilities available at the bottom of the page. If you have created a secondary ability, it would help to PM me with information on it, so that I can eventually sort it out.

Lifeshade
At character creation, choose one of the following:
Invisibility: though not technically invisible, this ability makes a Lifeshade entirely unobtrusive. People will tend to pass over them; it's not that they can't be seen, but rather that they become of so little interest that even in an empty room they may completely escape notice. Can be neutralised with a counter ability by a character with a higher post count.
At 50 posts, choose one of the following:
Life Sense: The character can sense when living creatures are nearby, with the sense growing stronger the closer they are.
At 100 posts, choose one of the following:
Shared Senses: The character can borrow the senses of a nearby living, non-sentient animal for as long as they concentrate. The user loses contact with his or her own senses while doing so.

Animate: The character can permanently animate a previously inanimate object no larger than 1 metre x 1 metre. In doing so the object will take on a personality but will not have sentient levels of intelligence. The character may only animate one object at a time; animating a new object causes the original object to become inanimate once more.
At 350 posts, choose one of the following:
Borrowing Life: The user may transfer their consciousness into any nearby non-sentient creature. In doing so they meld their own thoughts and intelligence with the the senses and desires of the creature. The user must leave their body in a coma-like state to use this ability so should make sure it is left in a safe place.

Deathshade
At character creation, choose one of the following:
Fade: Character makes themselves less perceivable on this plane. They do not disappear, they just become harder to notice unless they encounter someone with a counter ability and higher post count.
Tactical Communication: The ability to communicate with thoughts by touching a person's head. The longer this ability is used the more difficult it becomes to keep activated. Can be countered with an ability and higher post count.
At 50 posts, choose one of the following:
Shadow: character can dissolve into a shadow and move around in connecting shadows. In this form, characters are completely undetectable without a counter ability and higher post count.
At 100 posts, choose one of the following:
Dead Speaks: Character can animate corpses and speak to them after carving a mark on the forehead. The dead will have memories from up to an hour before their death. They have less memories of life the longer they have been dead.

Flicker
At character creation, choose one of the following:
Douse the Lights: Any source of light other than sunlight can be doused by this character. When this character has a higher post count, they may put out the magical light produced by another character as well.
Evade: The character is able to manipulate the shadows around them to 'hide'. The character must be completely still when hiding in the shadows. Using this power consumes energy and can only be used for a limited amount of time. The higher the post count, the longer the character can control the shadows.
Dream Eater: Ability to eat the dreams of a person who trusts them or is emotionally close as a food source at the risk of potentially destroying a person's imagination (if overused).
