Appearance
Features
Gabriel takes after his father, Damian Os Vis, to such a degree that they were often mistaken for brothers. His features are refined but not feminine - a strong nose and chin preclude this. Like most Daemons he is a master at controlling displays of emotion but, when he chooses to be, Gabriel can be quite expressive.
Eyes
Easily the most striking aspect of Gabriel's appearance, his eyes are a bright, almost unnatural teal. He takes after Damian again in this although his father's eyes were a slightly darker shade of the same tone. The most powerful channel of his bardic magic, Gabriel's eyes are also the most revealing part of him; his polite mannerisms and chameleon-like behaviour might hide the blood-thirst, desire for violence, lust, or anger that he feels at times, but usually some trace of his current emotion can be found in his eyes - if you stay close enough to look for it.
Hair
Gabriel has black hair, a common shade for a Bardic Golem. Thick and very soft, he wears it cut roughly and generally doesn't let it get too long. If you look closely you might catch the first hint of genetics from Gabriel's mother; very subtle red streaks that become more obvious in sunlight.
Complexion
Gabriel takes very strongly after Damian in almost every way; biology, magic and appearance. Unsurprisingly, he also inherited the Bardic Golem skin - silver-white moonstone, very pale, which may show subtle hints of pink and gold in sunlight. In the moonlight it becomes a striking light blue. His skin isn't entirely stone, however, and is not as resistant to injury as a full-blood Bardic Golems', although this difference is not noticeable to the naked eye.
Body
Standing at six foot two inches and powerfully though leanly muscular, Gabriel looks every inch the predator he is. Like most Daemons he is graceful and athletic, fast when he wants to be, and physically strong. Also in common with the rest of his race, he possesses both claws and fangs. Said fangs are approximately four inches long with knife-sharp piercing points and a serrated under-edge for tearing. His claws are approximately seven inches long and bear the same serrations as his fangs.
Attire
Having a high body temperature courtesy of his Fire Elemental blood, Gabriel prefers to wear simple, dark, lightweight clothing, even in winter. Often this will be cotton pants only, although he may also wear a basic shirt if he can get his hands on one without too much trouble. He seldom wears shoes, but has numerous eye-catching jewellery pieces that he is rarely, if ever, seen without.
Distinguishing Marks and Features
- Scar, left shoulder: a raised, twisted knot of scar tissue that is bone-white, several shades paler than his skin. This resulted from his final fight with Damian and causes minimal restriction in the joint.
- Scars, left ribcage: a souvenir from his fight with a Capra Daemon in the Northern Tangle, assisted by Shae. Three thin white lines, generally only noticed once pointed out or on close inspection.
- Scar, back of neck: received in the Gladiator rings when fighting with Hadjara. An inch long, fair thick scar from a dagger blade. Usually obscured under his hair.
- Scar, abdomen: arrow wound received during a rampage through the Boil. Close to round, slightly raised and paler than his skin.
- Tattoos: thin black lettering spells out the words Qüvvə on his right shoulder blade and Ağıllılıq on his left shoulder blade. These are the Daemon words for Strength and Wisdom, respectively.
You're so supersonic,
Wanna feel your powers, stun me with your lasers,
Your kiss is cosmic,
Every move is magic.
Personality
Quite the charmer, is Gabriel. His natural charisma is his most striking personality feature and it is powerfully enhanced by the Bardic Golem lineage, of which he is magically inclined over his Fire Elemental heritage. Be very, very careful of this striking Daemon Lord because his real power lies not in his ability to forcefully overpower challengers and rule-breakers, but rather in his ability to mesmerise them. His eye-catching physicality, his oddly striking eyes, his velvet-soft voice and his honey-and-roses scent are irresistibly hypnotic.
However this does not mean that he does not possess any physical strength. Quite the opposite - the Daemon's are a wild, chaotic and highly reactive race and Gabriel is famously moody and unpredictable. He rules fairly but firmly and has no qualms about entering into physical fights if his bardic charms fail to stop the attacker in their tracks. Fights are part of the job description for the Daemon Lord so over the years Gabriel has refined a technique that balances charm with violence, to great effect so far.
Gabriel is not without his vices. Lust is a significant one, exceeded only by pride. Offending Gabriel is likely to end in swift and merciless punishment. Avarice also applies in his coveting of silver and precious stones. This volatile, dynamic Daemon is jealous, temperamental and fiercely independent. He does not take permanent partners or hold slaves. Something that might not be apparent immediately, hidden as it is by pretty words and a charming persona, is the fact that Gabriel actually thoroughly enjoys killing - as long as he's calling the shots on who he kills and why. It's not something he advertises but it goes hand in hand with his temper, and he can be cruel and very creative in ending the lives of others.
Fortunately, his long-term holding of the position of Daemon Lord has taught him a certain amount of diplomacy and political savvy. Gabriel is extremely intelligent, extremely confident, and extremely persuasive. He serves the Daemon race with diligence and fierce loyalty, and is committed to ensuring they fare as well as possible regardless of the outcome for the other species of Litharia. However he does engender a deep respect for the forest and a loose but reliable alliance with the Fae, and tends to lead by example in such matters.
In short, don't mess with Gabriel unless you know what you're doing and you don't mind taking a risk. This mesmerizing Daemon is firmly in control, is not afraid of making hard decisions, and is perfectly willing and able to punish usurpers and unsavouries with a painful and drawn-out death.
He could just be your own personal hell...or heaven. Depends what you want from him, really.
You're from a whole other world,
A different dimension,
You open my eyes,
And I'm ready to go, lead me into the light.
History
The Dream Land
Born the eldest son of Damian and Katerina Os Vis, Gabriel is the only surviving child of four. Damian was a sadistic, extremely violent but powerfully magical Bardic Golem and Katerina an insane Fire Elemental. They simply didn't have the interest or capacity for four children and by the time Gabriel was six years old his siblings - two brothers and a sister - had passed away.
The reason for Damian's disinterest was simple; he already had a son in Gabriel that took after him in almost every way. He only wanted one follower to control and corrupt - the ultimate insurance of immortality. The other children were, as far as he was concerned, superfluous. Katerina on the other hand was never deliberately neglectful, but her mental illness prevented her from being able to adequately care for young children.
Damian began taking Gabriel with him everywhere he went almost as soon as the young Daemon could walk. The sadistic Golem had a nasty habit; bedding women only to kill them once he was finished, as often as four or five times a week. He considered this his full time occupation, not even taking into account the Daemons he killed out of anger, dislike or spite. Gabriel was seven years old when Damian began training him to kill, and eight years when he killed on his own for the first time.
Following this, Gabriel found himself under his father's rule for over a century. Although he had inherited a propensity for violence and a natural bloodlust from Damian he soon began to resent the iron control that the older Daemon exerted on his life, but for a long time didn't believe he had the strength to face up to Damian's powerful magic and intimidating physical strength. The Bardic Golem used a powerful illusion ability to torture his son for any hint of disrespect and, at six foot five and nearly eighty pounds heavier than Gabriel, was an intimidating opponent.
Eventually however Gabriel had no choice but to challenge Damian after he threatened then attacked his mother, Katerina. The fight culminated in Gabriel succeeding and killing Damian, although he received a permanent shoulder injury in the process. Gabriel left the Dream Land almost immediately after this, wanting nothing more than to escape any lingering control Damian exerted over him.
Litharia
He left the Dream Land 372 years ago willingly, known only as Gabriel. There was nothing holding him there; his father was dead, killed at Gabriel's own claws, and his mother was so insane she frequently failed to recognise him. Litharia called to him - the beauty of the forest, the intrigue of the Fae, so Gabriel was curious enough to explore. And indeed it was worth the loss of immortality, a gift he had never appreciated, because in the Forest he was far more at home.
Gabriel found the Fae fascinating - whimsical creatures, less chaotic than his kind though no less magical. But it was his own species that he retained a loyalty to and when he learned of the ruling system that existed in Litharia Gabriel began to integrate himself into it. And eventually at the age of three hundred and sixty six Gabriel challenged the Daemon Lord of the time and won the position for himself.
He has ruled now for one hundred and eleven years. Gabriel Jhaedaes Os Tar is his official title - Leader of Chaos. And it is an apt name for there is nothing permanent or logical in the lives of the Daemons. Gabriel is a powerful and firm leader, though a fair one with the interests of Daemons his genuine concern. He maintains a political relationship with the Fae who still fascinate him.
The system, of course, allows for challenges to his leadership and Gabriel accepts them with the grace and pride that is called for by Daemon culture. He generally kills the challenger, although mercy may be granted if promises of loyalty are forwarded by the defeated Daemon.
Gabriel likes his position and he's good at it. He is fairly public in his leadership and it would be unusual for any Daemon not to know the name of the current Lord, although the nature of Daemons still allows him plenty of time to indulge in his vices and a fairly nomadic lifestyle (he does, however, return to the Tunnels regularly). What remains to be seen is just how long he can retain his power...he's showing no signs of wishing to relinquish it yet.
Roleplay Sample
Gabriel needed to escape, just for a little while.
The position of Daemon Lord was a demanding one. His kind were volatile, easily angered, hard to predict. He was no different of course but, like any Daemon, at times he needed to indulge his requirement for independence and solitude. So, although he spent a great deal of time at the Daemon Tunnels, today Gabriel slipped away quietly to hunt.
He was overdue anyway. A visible peace settled over the Daemon as he weaved among the trees, slunk silently through the heavy mist. The ache of hunger and the stress-induced, bruise-like shadows below the Daemon Lord's striking teal eyes told him that he'd left it too long between hunts - although fire could sustain him for some time, he couldn't survive solely on it. No, he needed real, tangible food for that and, as Gabriel sunk into a crouch and scented the thick, warm blood of some unfortunate mammal, dagger-sharp fangs snaked over his chin and his claws extended into natural weapons.
Silently, with little more than a flash of pale silver-grey as he moved instinctively among the shadows, the Daemon began his hunt.
