The snapping hooves on the sand

Appearance:
Human:
Uri is a five foot two slender man with warm sun-kissed skin and soft brown-black hair cut short, either close cropped or long enough to be kept in a short pony tail since he usually only bothers to cut it once every year or two. Despite being very small and slim, with slender arms and long fingers, Uri still has strong and sinewy muscles along his legs and stomach that makes him more powerful than he looks. He's distinctly masculine although he borders on androgynous especially since he takes more after his mother than his father with a rounded face with plump lips, long lashes, and high cheekbones. He's very short for his breed, standing at only 5'4".
He's fast and he's developed a fighting style using poison tipped needles and playing off his own natural talent to go unnoticed to use in assassinations. Uri's most skilled at quick and unnoticed, since his build means he's best at fighting with his shoulders or legs which doesn't particularly lend itself to assassinations.
As a sign of his true form Uri’s whole body glows electric blue under blacklight.
True form:
A 24 centimeter (nine and a half inch) long black scorpion with massive claws and a huge stinger. His poison is relatively underwhelming and usually only would cause a miserable pus filled rash if he stung someone.
The saddle spotted with sweat and blood
The poison pumps through his veins
There's no stopping this, and now he's powerless
Still holding the reigns
The poison pumps through his veins
There's no stopping this, and now he's powerless
Still holding the reigns
Personality:
Uri is not an open person. His relationships with people outside his family are usually either killing them or trying to manipulate them to get something he wants. Uri likes fun and he enjoys having a good time but Uri doesn’t know how to go beyond that. The only meaningful relationships he’s had in his life would be with his family and those have always failed, either because of death, disinterest, or separation. It’s not for lack of trying that Uri isn’t a people person, quite the opposite really.
The Novosi clan heir fancies himself a social butterfly of sorts, despite the fact that he doesn’t really care about other people. He likes the night life with all that entails; cards, drinking, sex, and anything else of interest that might come up. In many ways he acts like a spoiled rich boy in public, doing whatever he likes with no regard for the consequences.
By nature Uri is much more reserved and thoughtful. He’s been trained to find and kill people so he’s very perceptive and good at reading people even if he isn’t always sure on how social cues work. Uri is great in very formal situations, and he knows how to behave himself and act accordingly which is the only reason why he’s the only remaining heir to the Novosi clan. He just hates doing it.
Any pour souls who trespass against us
Whether it be beast or man
Will suffer the bite or be stung dead on sight
By those who inhabit this land
Whether it be beast or man
Will suffer the bite or be stung dead on sight
By those who inhabit this land
History:
Uri was the third son born to the Novosi household, a clan of scorpion shifters infamous for their skills disposing of unwanted people. Elena and Blue came before him and Leon, Uri’s identical twin brother, was born five minutes after Uri himself. The twins were fortunate in their birth that they did have two other siblings to act as a buffer between themselves and their parent’s rein of abuse and neglect. Elena and Blue tag teamed watching the infant twins as soon as their mother lost interest in them. Elena actively played with them and Blue would shepherd them around, keeping them out of anything too terribly dangerous while he kept his nose buried in a book.
They were fairly well off as far as Novosi children went, even when their elder brother upped and left while they were still children it had little effect on the twins since even when Elena wasn’t around they still had one another. But despite the protective care of their siblings it was unavoidable that the twins would be trained to kill and together they took to it like ducks to water. They made a good team. The more charismatic Leon could wrap people around his little finger with little effort and Uri was better at sneaking around and slitting people’s throats before they notice him. They trained to cover each other’s weak points and because they had the same face and true form most all of their targets were under the impression that there was only one young Novosi boy.
Uri’s personality was such that meant he was overshadowed by the maternal Elena and charming Leon. He liked to work quietly and speak plainly and he really didn’t mind Leon diverting a lot of attention onto himself. So when, at the age of forty Uri found out that his eldest brother was returning Uri assumed it would be another sibling to overshadow him. Uri was curious since he didn’t remember anything about Blue but he had a vague idea that Blue was friendly and he assumed that Blue was going to be something a bit like Leon. So it came as a surprise when he met Blue and found him to be surly and openly disdainful of everyone in the family but the twins and Uri quickly grew close to his older brother. For the next six years Uri was fairly happy, content with his life at home until Leon died after being bitten by a serpent.
Despite their opposing personalities Uri and Leon had always been close and the death of his twin affected him deeply. He never really got over that, and things just got worse when his sister was captured and then died two years later; twenty two years almost to the day that Leon had died. Uri was understandably upset and he tried to focus on work as much as he could, trying not to think about his twin and his sister but still counting on Blue to be able to stick around. But when Uri was ninety-eight Blue let him down as well. His older brother lost an arm and was promptly disowned by their parents who saw no reason why they ought to allow any form of failure within their clan. Blue left but Uri stayed, now the only heir to the Novosi family.
The next century was fairly miserable for him. Most of the people he cared about where now out of his life and he was expected to spend most of his time working, which became more and more of a chore although Uri was always too cautious to get in over his head as Blue had. He did what he was told and he resented his parents, and sometimes even his siblings for leaving him behind but anytime Uri wanted to leave he talked himself out of it. And by now his parents were getting on in age and there was less and less of a tax on Uri to go out and kill. For the first time Uri really started to have free time and he wasn’t sure what to do with it.
Uri’s father, Juraj was becoming less aware of the things going on around him and was easily confused so Zala took over as head of the house, a role she was more than happy to fill since although their house was diminutive, generations of scorpion assassins had earned them a substantial fortune and the estate they lived in was an oasis unto itself. But Zala’s rule was short lived, and when Uri was two-hundred-and-thirty the aged Zala died of tuberculosis. Rule of the house was passed back to Juraj but by then he was confused almost constantly to the point where he didn’t reliably recognize Uri and when he did he usually thought he was Leon instead.
Rather than care for Juraj himself, Uri had his father moved to a quiet room in the corner of the estate with servants to attend him. For now Uri has taken over the role of head of house completely despite the fact that so long as his father lives he remains the heir. This could be rectified if Uri were to just kill his father but Uri can’t bring himself to do so and being around Juraj now just depresses him.
For there's is the power and this is the kingdom
As sure as the sun does burn
So enter this path, but heed these four words,
You shall never return
As sure as the sun does burn
So enter this path, but heed these four words,
You shall never return
