True Name: Quill Pervinos
Nickname(s): Hawk
Played by: DRACO BRUH
Age: 19
Date of Birth: July 5th
Sexuality: Pansexual/Polyamorous
Kith: Avian Changeling- Red-Tailed Hawk, ex-human
Abilities:
Dexterous Flight- Allows the character to fly quickly and gracefully. This character cannot be caught, out flown, or hit while flying unless the opposing character has a higher post count.
Loyalty: Hawk is loyal to his previous master through fear
Status/Occupation: Figuring out how to use his new body
Appearance:
One of the few parts of Hawk that did not change along with his transformation was his height. He continues to stand 5'3" exactly with a lithe build. Most of his body is still recovering from the long years of slavery, so he appears very thin with no muscular physique. Most can see the outline of his ribs under his fair peach skin. Even at his age, Hawk has somewhat smooth and soft facial features. His jawline is slightly sharp and round. The bridge of his nose concaves just slightly. Just like with his height, the color of his almond, hooded eyes did not change with his transformation and stayed a pale shade of purple, just slightly darker than lavender.
Hawk's favorite trait about himself is his hair, which is a thick and beautiful sheen of auburn hair. Due to his enslavement, he's rarely ever had the chance to cut it. Because of that, it's rather long and hangs just past his shoulders. Even after being freed, the only part of his hair that he bothers to cut are his bangs so that they stay out of the way. Dark brown feathers are mixed in with his hair, thanks to his transformation into an avian changeling. On his left ear, he has two loop ear piercings that were previously to mark him as a slave.
In a way, he's more bird than human in appearance. His legs are actually structured like that of a hawk's, where his knees bend backwards. The skin of his legs is also tough and similar to the birds' as well, and is dark grey in color. For feet, he has four toes: three in anterior, and one posterior, each with a sharp talon on the end.
With that feature, he also has very large, massive feathery wings (about 17 feet in length) shaped like a red-tail hawk's and are colored almost exactly like a Western red-tail. These wings replaced where his more humanoid-arms should have been. All that he has to replace hands are small, bat-like fingers at the apex of his wings. Air sacs in different parts of his body grant him the gift of flying, if he knew how. He also has a large tail that comes out of his backside, which also represents that of a red-tailed hawk's.
The only piece of clothing that he actively keeps on him is a steel helmet he picked off a corpse. The front of the helmet curves forward like a beak and covers most of his face besides the end of his nose and his mouth. On the back of the helmet, there is a ponytail made out of horse hair.
Quetz: Quetz is a baby feathery sneak (Quetzalcoatl)
Personality:
Curious; Hawk enjoys getting his nose into everything that he can. He has been nosey since a young age, and it knows no bounds. The curiosity rangers from questions about why the leaves turn yellow in the fall, to philosophy, and even to petty gossip. Hawk enjoys watching people build or make things, and will watch others work over their shoulders and even ask questions, regardless if they are strangers or not.
Dependent; Ever since he was young, till the age of eighteen, Hawk was a slave. He has never understood the concept of living without another person that's there to keep you in check and alive. Because of that, he actually has a strong fear of abandonment and being left alone for long periods of time.
Kind-Hearted; With a pure soul, Hawk has never had any intention of hurting even the smallest of flies without a purpose. To survive, he is willing to do what he has to, but beyond that Hawk does little else violence wise. He's always wanting to give a hand in anything he's able to do. There is never any coin on him because he always gives it up to those that need it more.
Lost; Without a master, Hawk is unsure of what to do, how to live his life. Slavery is all that he knows, and without it he feels like he is doomed to wander eternally, especially with his prolonged life span. He is unsure of how to seek guidance, and at this point just wanders aimlessly with his friend Bellina.
Adventurous; Even though Hawk feels lost in many ways, his curiosity does tend to make him eager to explore new places and to find different birds and animals he's never seen before. He wants to learn, and is always eager to meet new people from all sorts of races and backgrounds.
History:
Hawk was born as a slave and bought as a slave. Not once in his life did he grasp the idea of freedom of independence. As a human who never knew who his parents were, he had little ambition beyond serving the rich human family that owned him in The City. As an infant, he was cared for by the other slaves in the household. Most thought he would die before he reached five years of age due to how frail and small he was, but he endured. In fact, he became the favorite out of all the slaves and everyone put in some help to keep him alive and healthy.
When he was old enough to start working simple chores and learn how to address his higher ups, there was no hesitation in making him do so. At such a young age, he was still too vulnerable to taking permanent physical damage from beatings and other disciplinary actions, so his masters (known as the Romestans, which included a husband and wife, their grandparents, and seven children as well as many other blood relatives) were kind at the moment. Hawk never did learn to read or write. Instead he learned how to sweep and clean floors. He was then "branded" with two metal loop earrings in his left ear, which was the Romestans' signature "branding" of their slaves. They believed literal branding to be too barbaric.
At around eight years of age, his masters became more strict. Beyond his curiosity however, Hawk rarely got in any trouble. His masters were hardly so cruel as to beat him for no reason too, unless other slaves started to act up. Then they would use him as an example, because he was the favorite, including the masters' favorite. Even with the beatings, Hawk could not grasp the idea of what life would be like not being a slave. He knew nothing else other than being just that, and so he was content. It was around this time that he then learned how to clean linens and the masters' wide assortment of clothing, prepare baths, and clean out the masters' quarters.
A little bit later, he was taught to prepare savory dishes for the masters, and mediocre meals for the slaves. One time he was curious and tried one of the masters' savory dishes. A slave that was too fearful to let him do as he wished, reported the dead to the masters. They gave him ten lashes for the "rebellion", and never again did he think about trying out some of their food.
At seventeen, he was allowed to go out into public to fetch groceries, water, and supplies. However, he was forbidden from interacting with other slaves, and gods forbid other nobles unless they addressed him first. He was to do his tasks quickly and effectively, and at first he was good at it. His curiosity drove him to madness at the different races he came across and the crazy sorts of animals that people tended to keep with them. Finally, one day, at nineteen years old he gave in and spent a whole day doing everything but the tasks he was supposed to do. During that time, he was given a small egg that contained a Quetzalcoatl within it. It hatched that same day, and immediately imprinted on Hawk.
When he finally returned that night to the Romestans, they were infuriated. Hawk had experienced fear he'd never thought possible. They accused him of rebellion and planning a mutiny. To teach him to never stray from his deeds, they beat and bashed him until he was near death. Hawk was smart enough to hide Quetz before the beating, so that he would not be killed or thrown out by his masters. That winter night, they left him, bleeding and broken on the street in front of their estate as an example to all slaves, not just their own.
He most certainly would have died, had a young fae woman named Bellina not saved his life. She had come across him on accident, and was in the process of fleeing two hounds that had gotten past his charm ability. When she saw his helpless body in the streets, sobbing in pain, she did not have the heart to leave him be. She had learned enough about human customs to know that he was a slave, and she could tell he would not make the night.
Even though there has been a law that faes were to not take the life of others without reason, she believed to have reason even to kill the hounds so that she could save Hawk, and herself. Killing the hounds had been an easy task since she was quite skilled with the bow. All she had to do was set up an ambush, using Hawk as a mild distraction. After that she took Hawk (and Quetz, after he managed to tell her about where he hid the flying snake) to healer she trusted, and for weeks he was bed ridden.
Finally, after six weeks of being stuck on a bed, Hawk was mostly cured. He was completely terrified and wanted to immediately return to his masters and beg for forgiveness, but Bellina would not allow it. She told him that if he came with her, he could learn to read, write, and live. Despite his skepticism, Hawk found himself drawn to her grace and independence, even if he could not understand the concept.
She took him to the fae's homeland, and explained to him that he would need to eat their food and change into one of them if he was to learn and stay with her. And so he did, but in the process lost his most prized possession; his arms and hands. For weeks, verging on months, he and Bellina worked on his sense of balance and ability to use the few finger-like projections he grew on his wings. Over this time, he grew infatuated with Bellina, and she with him. After re-learning how to walk and move, almost as if he was a baby all over again, Bellina urged him to go with her to explore Litharia, and he did.
