The Book of Fae
Government
1. All fae are taught to understand the balance of Litharia and all life.
2. The fae are ruled by a fairy princess, who presides over the High Council. This council is made up of one representative from each species. They each choose their own apprentices to take over when they are gone. If there is no apprentice when the representative dies, that species will vote for one.
3. The keeper of the scrolls (high elf), master musician (high muse), and master of the beasts (high changeling), all share the second in command position to the fairy princess.
4. Lawbreakers are banished from the forest and the Mound forever.
5. All decisions regarding the species are voted on by the council, though the fairy princess has the final say. If the vote is unanimous, however, the fairy princess must go with the council’s decision.
6. The fairy princess can be voted out of office if the decision is unanimous amongst the high council. A new fairy princess should be reinstated immediately.
7. There is no money among the fae. Everything is traded, favors given for free are extraordinarily rare. The exception to this is in the Mound, where everything is given for free…in exchange for shelter and safety provided by the council.
8. Fae are never forced into anything. They do not keep slaves.
Spirituality
1. The fae do not worship a patron god or goddess. Instead, they celebrate them all equally.
2. Life and death are sacred to the fae as an integral part of the balance. They do not kill without reason and they do not create life unless they are able to care for it.
3. The changing of seasons are sacred to the fae.
4. Every fae is connected to Litharia. They can feel it dying like a physical ache in their chests. Fairies feel it the worst.
5. All living things are considered equal. Humans and shapeshifters have subconsciously become an exception to this.
6. All fae are taught patience. When they awaken (at fifty posts), they must undergo some sort of trial. Examples may include watching a flower bloom, counting the stars, singing the song of the river, or observing the life of a fire.
7. Magic is sacred to the fae as it is their life force. They guard it jealously and only use it during times of real need.
8. Every fae is permitted to connect to the gods and to nature on their own terms. There are no priests or priestesses.
Culture
1. Clothing is optional. There is no shame in one’s natural body.
2. Cloth made by crafter muses is highly sought after; it is the most beautiful cloth in the world as it is magically woven from spider silk. It is often see-through, though there are some forms of it that are not.
3. Physical contact is extremely natural between all fae. It is a sign of comfort and warmth. Sexual activities are not frowned upon.
4. Most fae are bisexual.
5. Fae are known to be party animals. They love dancing, music, bright colors, and alcohol.
6. Fae do not keep pets, though some may have animal companions. However, fae cannot speak any animal language without an ability that allows them to.
7. Many fae do not sleep well if they have to sleep alone. This is why a great number of fae prefer the community of living in the Mound.
8. Most fae are whimsical and their moods can change faster than a hummingbird can flap its wings.
Biology
1. All fae have pointed ears.
2. Fae are directly connected to their magic; to overuse their energy is to die.
3. Iron is poisonous to them. It drains their energy just by being close to them. Physical contact burns their flesh.
4. All fae come into existence knowing their True Name. Anyone who is given knowledge of this name has complete control over the fae. To disobey a command given using that name means death.
5. The fae cannot tell a lie. This also means they are unable to break their word. Breaking their word will result in death.
6. Fae are able to summon a glamour to make them look “normal” to whomever they are around. Only someone with the ability to see through illusions can see it. The fae have no control over how they are perceived. It is simply what would make the most sense to the observer. This can be dangerous in crowded areas as different people are likely to see different things.
7. If a human enters the Mound and partakes of fae food or drink, that human will become fae (pm an admin for details). Any other non-fae would simply go stark raving mad. A non-fae cannot exit the Mound without help from a fae.
8. Fae eyes are large and almond shaped.
The Fae Laws
1. Do not take without giving.
2. Do not kill without reason. Reason may include food, warmth, blood debts, and survival.
3. Do not enslave another living being.
4. Give thanks for the lives that you take.
5. Do not betray the Mound by bringing untrustworthy guests.
6. Celebrate the changing of the seasons, for it is part of the balance that gives you life.
7. Suffer not a human to enter our territory without being blindfolded and bound by one of our own kind.
8. Do not offer aid to a shapeshifter or human, and let neither of them convince you with lies.
